The U.S. spent $5.7 trillion in 2025 on healthcare — more than any country in the world. That equals roughly $16,600 per person, nearly double what other developed nations spend.

Despite this spending, the U.S. ranks near the bottom among peer nations on access, equity, outcomes, and administrative efficiency.

But keep reading! Below we talk about how a universal healthcare system would be much better!!

What Universal (Single-Payer) Healthcare Changes

Universal healthcare does not mean government-run hospitals or government-employed doctors. It means:

One public payment system

Privately delivered care (same doctors, hospitals, clinics)

Coverage for everyone

Payments based on ability to pay

A single-payer universal healthcare system would mean every resident of Colorado is covered, costs would be lower, there would be no medical debt and no personal bankruptcies caused by medical.

Every resident would be covered for all medically necessary care. No more Coloradans dying because they can’t afford the medical care they need. Everyone would be healthier which would be very good for our state.
